Managing Energy Costs - Not Lights

If you need the lights on and want to reduce your energy consumption, Active ES is the solution.

The Active ES E-Series solution allows you to harvest energy savings without having to manage your individual HID or Fluorescent light fixtures.  Whether you plan to design in your energy savings or upgrade your existing environment to be more efficient, the E-Series lighting controls allow you to build and maintain the productive, efficient lighting environment you require.   Once your energy savings are set the savings are automatic – there’s no management required to set and adjust timers, sensors, or software.

 Overview:

The E-Series patented energy-saving lighting power controller provides an upgrade to existing and new facilities by emulating an Active or Compensating Ballast for HID and Fluorescent lamps at the circuit breaker level.   HID and most fluorescent fixtures utilize magnetic or passive electronic ballasts to provide ignition level power creating the initial arc and ignition of the lamp.  Once fully ignited these lamps do not require the same level energy to maintain the arc or the brightness of the lamp.  Active ES controls are designed to supply full power for the specific period of time that is required to bring the lamps to full brightness and maintain the lamp warranty, it then automatically reduces the power supplied to the lamps, saving energy and extending lamp and ballast life.  E-Series modules are installed between the circuit breaker and the lighting load and are matched to the circuit breaker capacity – i.e. 20 amp 277 Volt – a basic survey by your electrician can identify exactly what you will need to start saving energy.

 How it works:

Active ES controls utilize an elegantly simple patented and UL Listed autotransformer and switch combination to provide a line voltage reduction of 10% to 36% based on the needs of your environment and energy savings goals.  Through 20 years of production and refinement we have shown that the clean and efficient use of an autotransformer provides the desired energy savings with no adverse effects to the sine wave – in fact, the inherent nature of the transformer reducing the sine wave actually slightly improves power factor and harmonics as opposed to other digital methods that introduce negative line conditions through chopping or limiting the sine wave.

Our controls are designed for use with HID lamps such as high and low-pressure sodium, metal-halide, pulse-start, and mercury vapor, as well as fluorescent or any combination of the above.  The controller uses 6 power saving settings to reduce the power consumed by existing or new commercial and industrial lighting systems by the amount you request, up to 36%.

 What to expect:

 Energy Savings and Better Lighting

The “Designed Lumen Output” of a lamp is measured at a point 40% into the time of a lamps rated life. As the chart below shows, using the Active ES controls will slightly reduce the initial lumen output of a new lamp but will maintain the mean lumen output of the lamp above the Designed Lumen Output for a greater length of time, thus providing overall better lighting for the rated life of the lamp.

Damage caused by the high operating temperatures of HID lamps is a significant factor in determining “Rated Life” and “Efficient Life” of a lamp. By reducing the excess energy that is normally dissipated as heat, Active ES controls allow the lamps to operate efficiently at lower temperatures extending the lamp and ballast effective life. Improved mean lumen output and longer lamp life means fewer spent bulbs in our landfills and lower maintenance cost

Limited downtime – after the Active ES controls are in place your electrician can make them operational in moments – on your lunch hour for instance – minimizing interruptions to your operations

• No cultural changes – there’s no adoption phase or organizational change required as with retrofits

• No added management duties – set the savings settings once, no need to monitor the system nor maintain the system

• Easy to maintain – in most cases dust with an air blower just once a year

• Reliable proven technology – Installations ranging back to 20 years with dependable, reliable performance

• Documented Energy Savings – By using data loggers with Active ES Controls in place

we can show your actual energy savings – not an approximation but actual real time

Energy Efficiency and Environmentally Friendly:

How many Negawatts are you producing? Amory Lovins pioneered the concept of “Negawatts” so that consumers, utilities and governments could compare the cost of conservation measures against the cost of increasing power production. Negawatts represent the Megawatts of power saved from one application that is made available to another application.

Active ES E-Series energy saving lighting controls allow you to select from 10% to 36% savings in lighting energy consumption based on your environment and performance requirements. For example, a typical warehouse structure drawing 1,100 Megawatts annually set to a 25% savings will produce 275 Negawatts* annually. That’s a direct reduction in 6,600,000 pounds of Carbon Dioxide, 11,480 pounds of Sulfur Dioxide, 19,140 pounds of Nitrogen Oxide and conserves an amazing 6,875,000 gallons of fresh water. At a rate of .10¢ per Kwh, that’s also $27,500 in business sustainability. And Active ES lighting controls are designed and built to be easy on the environment. Our modular design can be repurposed to future facilities, is 95% recyclable by weight, meets RoHS compliance standards, and has an expected lifespan of decades.
