The Electra was designed originally for just this purpose. Industrial buildings usually have very high ceilings with a large number of HID lamps. There is a very common risk of over-lighting these facilities due to the distance the light has to travel to the floor. Since HID lamps "season" and suffer from LLD (Lamp Lumen Depreciation) the lighting scheme usually has to account for the lower end performance of the lamps. This means that when new lamps are installed they over-light the area for the first few thousand hours of operation, and then provide the proper amount of light for a few thousand hours. After that, for more than half their rated life, they provide inadequate light. The Electra stabilizes the light output of the lamps, reducing the luminosity of a new lamp to minimize over-lighting, and improving the luminosity of the lamps for the majority of the lamp's life.
