Core Technology

The Problem
Industrial, commercial and street lighting systems use roughly 50% of all power generated by utility companies. The vast majority of these facilities utilize gaseous-discharge lamps such as mercury vapor, high-pressure sodium, metal-halide and fluorescent. These lamps are designed to start at maximum power and are fully warmed up to full brightness after 8 to 15 minutes. However, at this point they no longer require maximum power to remain lighted. The problem is existing technology does not distinguish between the power required to start the lamps and the power needed to keep them lighted. As a result, the lamps continue to consume maximum power needlessly wasting a tremendous amount of energy. And money.

The Solution
Our power controllers solve this problem. They enable the lamps to start up at full power, but when they're fully warmed up, the power is automatically reduced. This is analogous to boiling water. To boil cold water it takes more energy (i.e., flame) to raise the water temperature to the boiling point. However, once the boiling point has been reached, the flame may be reduced and the water will continue to boil. Our units control the amount of "flame" (energy) being fed to HID and fluorescent lamps and reduces it after the lamp is sufficiently warm. This results in a dramatic reduction of energy usage, greenhouse gases and generating demand.

Benefits

Cost Effective
There simply is no less expensive way to achieve the dramatic energy savings and environmental benefits that accrue with the use of Electra. It is engineered and manufactured to provide a short payback period which translates into an outstanding ROI. As energy costs escalate, payback will be even shorter and savings even greater! Low cost financing is also available through third party vendors, if required.

Simple to Install and Operate
All of our power controllers are engineered to be simple to install and use. They are installed between the utility power lines and lighting service panel. It is completely self contained requiring no outside components or elaborate installation procedures. In most cases, simply mount the unit either on the wall or on the floor, run the utility lines into the unit (3 wires) and connect the output (3 wires) to the lighting service panel. Complete installation and maintenance guides are provided. Once installed, its operation is completely automatic and requires no outside intervention of any type. Just install it and forget about it - operation is automatic and savings begin immediately.

Reliable
Our power controllers are constructed of heavy duty components using a minimum of moving parts. NEMA enclosures are used to protect the equipment and all components are sealed where appropriate. Active ES' commitment to reliability results in an expected useful life of 30 years. As with all electrical equipment, it is sound practice to perform periodic maintenance on the unit. Extended maintenance and service agreements are available from Active ES. All of our units are UL listed and covered under three U.S. patents.
