The Problem
Industrial, commercial and street lighting systems use roughly 50% of all power
generated by utility companies. The vast majority of these facilities utilize
gaseous-discharge lamps such as mercury vapor, high-pressure sodium, metal-halide
and fluorescent. These lamps are inherently efficient power consumers designed to start at maximum power and are
fully warmed up to full brightness after 8 to 15 minutes. However, at this
point they no longer require maximum power to maintain their designed lumen
output. The problem
is existing technology does not distinguish between the power required to
start the lamps and the power needed to keep them at their optimum operating
levels. As a result, the
lamps continue to consume maximum power needlessly wasting a tremendous amount
of energy. And money.
The Solution
Our lighting controls solve this problem. They provide full power to the lamps
allowing them to become fully ignited then automatically and safely
reduce the power to a preset savings level.
This
is analogous to boiling water: to boil cold water it takes more energy (i.e.,
flame) to raise the water temperature to the boiling point; however, once
the boiling point has been reached, the flame may be reduced and the water
will continue to boil. Our units control the amount of "flame" (energy)
being fed to HID and fluorescent lamps and reduces it after the
lamp is sufficiently warm. This results in a dramatic reduction of energy
usage, greenhouse gases and generating demand.
Benefits
Cost Effective
There simply is no less expensive way to achieve the dramatic energy savings
and environmental benefits that accrue with the use of Active ES products. It is engineered
and manufactured to provide a short payback period which translates into
an outstanding energy efficiency and ROI. As energy costs escalate, payback
will be even shorter and savings even greater! Most utility
companies offer rebate plans based on the verifiable wattage
reductions provided by our products. There are also tax credits
and favorable lease terms that can make your purchase a net cash
positive event for your organization.
Simple to Install and Operate
All of our power controllers are engineered to be simple to install and use.
Our E-Series and LiteHawk products are installed between the circuit
breaker and the lighting load.
It
is completely
self
contained requiring no outside components or elaborate installation procedures.
In most cases, simply mount the modules in an appropriate NEMA enclosure,
then make the simple three wire connection taking the load from the
circuit breaker and attaching it to a module, connect a jumper from
the module back to the circuit breaker and connect a jumper from our
module to your existing neutral bar (complete installation and maintenance guides
are provided). Once installed, its operation is completely automatic and requires
no outside intervention of any type. Just install it and forget about it
- operation is automatic and savings begin in about 16 minutes for HID and 3
minutes for Fluorescent fixtures.
Reliable
Our power controllers are constructed of heavy duty components using a minimum
of moving parts. NEMA enclosures are used to protect the equipment and all
components
are sealed
where appropriate. Active ES' commitment to reliability results in an expected
useful life of 30ears. As with all electrical equipment, it is sound practice
to perform periodic maintenance on the unit. All of our units are UL Listed and
covered under U.S. patents and international patents.
Environmentally Minded
Energy efficiency is reported to be the number one way we can prevent
thousands of pounds of pollutants from being generated every year.
For every kilowatt of energy consumed there is an associated cost
of 1.2 pounds of CO2, .016 pounds of SO2, and .069 pounds of NOx
required to produce that energy.
Water is also a critical component of electricity generation and
accounts for the loss of up to 25.5 gallons of fresh water for each
Kilowatt hour of generation. Active ES lighting controls will save
thousands of kWh of electricity in typical installations, resulting
ultimately in preventing millions of pounds pollutants from being
released into the atmosphere for your electrical generation as well as
millions of gallons of fresh water saved over the life of the product.
Active ES products are also built to be easy on the environment.
Although there are no United States requirements, we have
voluntarily built our units to comply with the most stringent
international Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standards.
Our modules are 95% recyclable by weight and can be repurposed to
another facility when warranted.
